Waiting to feel inspired? Stop.

Jul 26, 2026

You already know the feeling. The business is running, the numbers are fine, the calendar is full, and somewhere in there the spark got quiet. Nothing is broken. It just feels flat.

Here's the part most leaders miss: inspiration isn't something that happens to you. It's something you build conditions for. Waiting for it is a strategy that has never worked for anyone.

Rest and refill are not the same thing

Rest stops the drain. Refill adds something back.

You can sleep eight hours, take the weekend, block the afternoon, and still come back empty. Because rest addresses depletion. Inspiration comes from input. New rooms, new problems, new people, new ideas.

If you have been resting and still feel flat, you don't need more rest. You need more input.

Where inspiration actually comes from

Track it for one month and you'll see your own pattern. For most leaders it's some version of:

  • Being around people who are building something
  • Learning something that has nothing to do with your revenue
  • Finishing something instead of managing something
  • A conversation where someone sees your business more clearly than you do
  • Time outside your own head

Notice what's not on that list: scrolling, comparing, consuming more content about your industry.

The Energy Equation, applied

Energy is a business asset. Same as cash. You track cash, so track this.

Two columns, one week:

  • What gave me energy
  • What took it

Do it for seven days. The pattern will be obvious and slightly annoying, because you'll see the things draining you are often things you chose.

Then make one move. Not ten. Cut one drain or add one source. That's it.

Build the refill in on purpose

Inspiration that depends on your mood is unreliable. Inspiration that's scheduled shows up.

  • One learning input a month that isn't about your business
  • One room a quarter where you're not the expert
  • One thing on your calendar that exists purely because it lights you up
  • The Pause, weekly, before you decide anything that matters

You protect client time. Protect this the same way.

When it still won't come

Sometimes flat isn't a fuel problem. It's a fit problem.

If you've refilled and rested and it's still gray, the question isn't how do I get inspired. It's what am I building, and do I still want it? That's a bigger conversation, and it's a good one. Most leaders avoid it because they're afraid of the answer. The answer is almost never blow it all up. It's usually one honest adjustment.

Your next move

Pick one:

  • Run the two-column energy audit this week
  • Put one refill input on the calendar before Sunday
  • Take the Pause before your next big decision

One. Not all three. Make it achievable.

Inspiration isn't a personality trait. It's a system. Build it and it stops being luck.

Lead with Energy. Live with Intention. ❤️
