Q4 is your unfair advantage

Sep 20, 2026

It's officially a few weeks away from the fourth quarter. And if you're anything like most of the business owners I talk to, some part of you is already mentally halfway to January.

I get it. The holidays are coming. The calendar is about to fill up with parties and travel and family obligations. It feels like permission to coast.

That's exactly why this quarter is the biggest opportunity you'll get all year!! 🙌

While your competitors are checking out, you have a wide-open lane. The business owners who stay focused through these next 90 days aren't just finishing the year strong, they're starting next year ahead, while everyone else is still trying to remember where they left off.

So, let's talk about how to actually do that, without burning yourself out in the process.

Pick one number that defines a strong finish. Not five goals. One number. A revenue target, a client count, a launch date. Something specific enough that you'll know, without question, whether you hit it. Vague goals get abandoned in November. Specific numbers get chased.

Keep your Weekly CEO Meeting running through the holidays. This is the one habit that quietly separates the business owners who finish strong from the ones who lose the thread. Don't pause it "until things calm down." Things calm down when you decide they do. Fifteen minutes with your numbers every week keeps you steering instead of reacting.

Block your priority hours before the calendar fills up. This is Values First, Intentional Time Blocks in action. If you wait to see what's left after the holiday obligations land on your calendar, you'll find there's nothing left. Claim the hours that move your one number forward now, before November and December do it for you.

Systemize the one thing living in your brain. There's a task, a process, a piece of client communication that only happens because you personally remember to do it. Before the season gets chaotic, write it down, hand it off, or build a simple system for it. You want December to run without requiring tons of effort from you.

Protect your energy like it's part of the plan, because it is. Finishing strong doesn't mean sprinting until you're depleted. It means pacing yourself so you walk into January with something left in the tank. A strong Q4 and a strong January aren't in competition. Build a quarter you can sustain, not one you have to recover from.

Here's something worth knowing. Researchers Hengchen Dai, Katy Milkman, and Jason Riis at Wharton found that people are more motivated to pursue goals right after what they call a "temporal landmark," a moment that feels like a fresh start. Most people only think of January 1st that way. But the start of a new quarter works the same way in your brain. October 1st is already a reset button. You don't have to wait for the new year to use it.

You have a full quarter ahead of you. That's not something to survive until the holidays give you an excuse to rest. It's sixteen weeks to build real momentum, while most of the market takes their foot off the gas.

You've got this, and now you've got the plan.

If you want help turning this into an actual quarter plan, one built around your one number, your real calendar, and your energy, that's exactly what I do in a Discovery Call. No pressure, no pitch, just a conversation about where you want to land by December 31st and what it would take to get you there.

P.S. If you already know the one number you're chasing this quarter, hit reply and tell me what it is. I read every one, and I love seeing what you're building toward.
