Why I succeeded without the 5am wake-up
Aug 16, 2026Hi friend,
I need to tell you about two versions of me.
Version one did everything right. Up before the sun. Workout done before the kids woke up. Journal filled. Meditation logged. Every box on the "successful people do this" list, checked. And I still struggled.
Version two? Barely touched a morning routine. Skipped the journaling for weeks. Woke up later. And that version was thriving.
Same person. Same brain. Wildly different results. So I spent a long time trying to figure out what actually made the difference, both in my own life and coaching hundreds of leaders through the same confusion.
Here's what I found:
Success doesn't come from the routine. It comes from alignment.
Not alignment in the vague, Pinterest-quote way. I mean something you can actually see. When your top values are showing up in your calendar, you build momentum. When they're missing, you drain.
That's it. That's the whole thing.
Let me show you what this looks like in real life.
Collaboration is one of my highest values. When I've got real collaboration time blocked in my week, meaningful, on the calendar, actually happening, something clicks. I get to mark a quiet little success checkmark in my own head. It feels good because a value is being fed.
And when I look at my week and see all five of my top values showing up somewhere? I know I'm aligned. My energy is up. My momentum is building. I'm doing the things that feed my soul, and everything else gets easier.
The weeks my values go missing from the calendar are the weeks I feel flat. Drained. Like I'm pushing a boulder uphill for no reason.
I see the exact same pattern in my clients, especially the ones making big moves in their business or their life. When their top five values are landing in their week, momentum builds. When they're not, everything feels harder than it should.
This is The Energy Equation in action. Your energy is a business asset, and your values are what refuel it.
So here's your next move:
- Pull up last week's calendar
- Ask: which of my values actually showed up here?
- Notice the weeks you felt good versus flat, and look at what was on the calendar during each
You'll start to see the pattern fast.
The catch? You can't align your calendar to your values until you know what your top five actually are. And that part takes real reflection. It's not a quick guess between meetings. It's honest work, and it's usually better done in conversation than alone in your head.
That's where the next step comes in.
The Executive Reset Retreat
This is exactly what we do at the Executive Reset Retreat. We slow down and get clear on the values that actually drive you, then reevaluate whether your life and calendar are honoring them or quietly working against them.
You'll leave with more than a feeling. You'll leave with a plan. One built to create real momentum while keeping you aligned and motivated heading into 2027.
Profit and presence. Never a trade-off. This is where you build both on purpose.
Lead with Energy. Live with Intention.
💛 Jody
